Book Review – You Were Born Rich

Born-RichChoosing a career in personal development is one of the greatest decisions that I have ever made in my life. It has allowed me (and still allows me) to have so much fun learning, growing and consequently teaching from the thoughts of the most amazing authors, speakers and business people. The whole world is full of inspirational mentors and the great Bob Proctor is no exception. Bob Proctor has been involved with personal and professional development for longer than any other human that is alive today. There are a phenomenal amount of happy, successful people that pin their achievements his advice and teachings.

My personal favourite Bob Proctor piece of work is the Book You were Born Rich . It is another one of those self help books that you simply have to read if you are looking to experience rapid personal growth.

One of the greatest things about You were Born Rich is the fact that it doesn’t just speak to the head it speaks to the heart as well. I would imagine that you can relate to this feeling. Isn’t it amazing when someone speaks to the ‘whole you’ and their message resonates with you on a conscious and subconscious level? This book doesn’t just advocate Positive Thinking for the sake of thinking positively it really explains why things like a positive mindset and setting goals are important. You may even find that the messages are conveyed so powerfully that some of your beliefs may be changed immediately.

This book allows the reader top understand how we really are in control of our own destinies and that with a true level of commitment we can achieve what we want to achieve in life. Proctor has the amazing ability to explain to the reader how our thoughts have such a huge impact on the results that we experience in our lives. He talks about laws of the Universe and how we can tune into them to better ourselves.

In an enlightening part of the book, Proctor describes the ‘Acorn Analogy’. He outlines how acorns are just like humans (and everything else in our universe) in as much that they are just a mass of energy is a high speed of vibration. Leave an acorn out of the earth and it begins to die. However, the second that you plant the acorn, it starts to attract the energy particles that help the growth of an oak tree. A human being is also a large mass of energy at a particular rate of vibration. This rate of vibration is dependent upon the person’s thoughts and they then proceed to attract the energy that correlates with their most common thoughts. Interesting, right?

This analogy made a lot of sense to me and my and my life because I started to see a potential correlation between the way I had been thinking and the results that I had been getting. An example of this was the way that I had always thought that the best review about we were Born Richway to take care of myself and my loved ones financially was to progress through University as I was doing, ‘get a good job’ that paid well and be done with it. This is very nearly what happened. Luckily for me I made a conscious effort to use the ideas of Bob Proctor (and others) to reprogram my thinking and perceive life in a completely different way.

I now run my dream business, where I can work from home and do what I love most. Which is writing, coaching and speaking on the topic of personal development.

My copy of You were Born Rich is always on show on my book case and I still regularly consult it. It is a fantastic book that will initiate a transformation in your life no matter what or who you want to be. 

Book Review – The Success Principles

book-ReviewThe Success Principles by Jack Canfield is essentially a collection of ideas to help the reader to achieve their professional and personal goals. Jack Canfield reveals no less than 64 principles for success to help people in any field with high aspirations.

This is one of the books that really helped me to transform the way that I though about Goals, Life and Success. Canfield (co-creator of the phenomenal Chicken Soup for the Soul series) outlines the principles that he has lived and taught over the last 3+ decades. Although I may not have achieved every one of Big Goals yet, I am 3 years into my journey of self-development and the ideas outlined in this book have certainly helped me along the way.

The Success Principles gives the reader the tools required to enhance confidence, deal with daily life, overcome difficulties and achieve their ambitions in life. This book is a lot more than a simple collection of positive ideas thrown together, it consists of 64 workable principles that have been used by successful people from all walks of life since the dawn of humanity. The thing that I love is that the basics are the same whether you are at college, an entrepreneur or unemployed at the moment.

Your goal could be to be the top seller in your office, make a million dollars, become a surgeon or get A’s in all of your exams – the strategies that you will follow are the same.

Once you have read about these fundamentals of success, you will progress to transforming the way you think. After that it’s time to build a ‘Success Team’ and get the most out of all of your relationships. Finally, as is the way with achieving what I call ‘Circular Success’ you will learn how to develop a positive psychological blueprint around money and the day-to-day habits that will allow you to create the life that you want for yourself.

As with every self-help book or personal development book that I have ever read, I implemented each and every one of the ideas described in The Success Principles and the changes that they have brought about (in conjunction with other strategies) are fantastic and inspiring.

I am a true believer in taking action on any positive information that you come across and the information in this book is no exception. This is one of those self help books that you will not just read once. Read it again and again so you can put the ideas in to practice and transform your life as fast as possible!

The Book contains fabulous stories of Business Leaders, Elite sports people, celebrities and regular members of society. The Success Principles will allow you to take a ‘leap of faith’ and start transforming yourself immediately.

Book Review – Outwitting the Devil

the-DevilOutwitting-the-DevilOnce I had turned my health around and I had cured myself of asthma, the next thing that was on my agenda was to improve my finances. That is when I read Napoleon Hill’s book; Think and Grow Rich. I still read it every day after being inspired to do so by Bob Proctor (he has read it every day for 50+years). The message of the book is based on reprogramming yourself for success.

I was hooked on Hill’s style and insights and I wanted to learn more from him so I started searching for other book by him. What II found was a book called Outwitting the Devil: The Secret to Freedom and Success. On further inspection, I found that Hill originally wrote this book in 1938 but it was so filled with controversy that members of his family and his advisory team convinced Hill to keep it under Lock and Key. The book was finally published in 2011 after being annotated by Sharon Lechter. Sharon Lechter is the co-author of Three Feet from Gold and co-author of one of the best selling personal finance books of all time, Rich Dad Poor Dad.

In Outwitting the Devil, Hill talks about faith, prayer and success in his unique style and then he proceeds to share the discussions that he had with ‘The Devil’. When describing these discussions Hill outlines how the Devil gains control of humans so as to lock them into lives filled with heartache, misery and repeated failure. I have heard of a lot of people being put off this book because they “aren’t religious”. I think this is missing the point because whether you are religious or non-religious there is so much wisdom and inspiration to be gained from the messages in this book.

An example of this is when the Devil announces to Hill, “I hate the United States as only the Devil can hate. The cause was born on July 4, 1776, when fifty-six men signed a document which destroyed my chances of controlling the nation.” The Devil then explains his quest to destroy the United States. Considering that Hill wrote this book more than seventy years ago, this is one of many moments where the Devil’s message is extremely relevant today.

The Devil is open and up front with Hill in admitting that he can’t control those people that think for themselves. He says that he cannot control people that have discovered their own mind and consciously control it.

Whether you believe in the Devil or not, the constant relevance and almost ‘spooky’ resemblance to reality that Hill describes in
his conversations with the Devil are ever present. The overarching message is to be in control of your mind or run the risk of negative habits, failure and depression (i.e. the work of the devil) will set in.

Book-reviewThe annotations provided by Sharon Lechter helps modern readers interpret the book as well as highlight the almost prophetic
genius of Napoleon Hill. For example, Lechter describes how Hill was advanced in his thinking that his predictions surrounding medicine, sociological phenomena and addictions that they have become a reality.

Scientific thinking would of course lead us to believe that Napoleon Hill dreamt this experience or was hallucinating this ‘Interview with the Devil’. However, there are no accidents in this Universe and Hill’s message is incredibly important whatever you believe. I would strongly recommend reading Outwitting the Devil if you are passionate about improving yourself  and gaining control of your own mind.

How to Control Your Emotions

EmotionsMy Favourite Book of all time is called Awaken the Giant Within. I remember when I first read it, when I was laid up with a broken leg, going through a challenging time thinking “what the hell am I going to do with my life?” . Without this book and specifically the chapter on Emotional Mastery, I don’t think that I would be doing what I am doing now and I certainly wouldn’t have become an author myself.

If you haven’t read Awaken the Giant Within yet; it is the book that I recommend to everybody!

As I have been improving myself and my life there have been, and continue to be emotional times in my life. It is the things that I learned from Anthony Robbins’ book Awaken the Giant Within that has allows me to stay in control of my emotions.

I’d like to share with you Tony’s 6 Steps to Emotional Mastery in the hope that they help you in the same way that they have helped me.

A ‘light bulb moment’ for me was realising that as complex as humans are, we only ever do anything to change the way that we feel.

If you’re trying to lose body fat, build muscle, improve your finances or save for a new car – the only reason is because of the particular emotion that you think will arrive when you do it. To elaborate, you may believe by upgrading your car or losing body fat you will feel more confident. Or by making more money you can ‘finally be happy’.

Most people (including me until I realised) wait and put milestones on their emotions and always keep that particular emotion in the future. The truth is you can feel whatever emotion you want to feel at any time!

The 6 Steps to Emotional Mastery

Below you will find the 6 Steps to Emotional Mastery outlined in Awaken the Giant the Within:

1)Get clear on what you’re feeling

As you notice that you are feeling some sort of negative emotion, ask yourself, “What am I REALLY feeling right now?”

Be totally clear about it. I ask myself “Am I really feeling Sad or is it another feeling?”

2)Recognise and be grateful for your emotions because they support you

As your emotions are there to help you, you should feel genuinely grateful that they are sending you a message at this time.

3)Develop a Curiosity about the Message this Emotion is Sending You.

You are on the road to mastering your emotions when you become curious about them. Even though the emotion appears negative, you can ask yourself some powerful questions like: “Is this How I want to Feel? What Can I learn from this? What else could this emotion mean? What am I willing to do so I can feel how I want to feel?

4)Restore Your Confidence

An easy, powerful and rapid way to deal with any negative emotion is to go back to a time when you successfully handled this emotion and moved on in the past.

The chances are this emotion isn’t new. You’ve dealt with it once; you can deal with it again.

If possible, say to yourself out loud: “What did I do so well last time, to deal with this emotion?”

Whatever you did well last time, do it again and you’ll get positive results again.

5)Be Certain that you can handle this emotion RIGHT NOW and in the Future.

Repeat the focus that you had in the previous step where you remembered a time that you dealt with this emotion in the past. Then you can move on to ask yourself, “How am I going to do Even better this time?”

You can then ask yourself, “How will make sure I deal with emotion effectively in the future?”

Originally, your brain may say something negative but push yourself through that barrier, keep asking and you will get positive answers.

6)Build Your Excitement and Take Action

The last part of this process is to build a level of excitement based on the fact that you can take control of this emotion easily and quickly take some action to prove that it has been dealt with.

The Hands Down, best way to deal with an emotion is as soon as you start to feel it! It is essential that you ‘kill the weed whilst it’s in the ground’ and don’t let it sprout and grow into a monster.

Control-your-emotionsJust like most of the concepts that I have learned and the ideas that I teach; knowing how to master your emotions will take practice and repetition. However, the more that you follow the steps, they eventually become embedded in your subconscious mind and you will be better you will be at taking control of your emotions.

The main reason that I wanted to share this information with you was because these steps have really helped me in recent times when the health of my Grandmother (who I am very close to) deteriorated after she had a large heart attack.  I had the steps written down on a piece of paper to help me deal with the situation systematically and positively. I now hope that you can do the same.

I hope that you can use the steps as a blueprint when it comes to how to master your emotions and that you practice and repeat it to the point where you gain true ‘Emotional Mastery’.

One thing I will say is make sure that you are really committed to making some detailed, amazing changes in your life. CHANGE YOUR THINKING FROM NEGATIVE TO POSITIVE

DEFINE YOUR SITUATION OR DIFFICULTY CLEARLY- What exactly is the challenge that you’re facing? What’s making you worry? Write it out clearly in detail….it could be a cluster of problems, write them out separately and define them separately

Ask ‘what else is the problem?’ Look for the root of the problem]

Ask ‘what are my minimum boundary conditions?’ define the parameters of your solution CLEARLY…What would it accomplish? What would it contain? Etc. etc.

Pick your best solution by comparing the various possible solutions – WHAT IS THE BEST THING TO DO AT THIS TIME UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES?

Ask ‘what’s the worst possible thing that can happen if this decision doesn’t work?’

Set measures for your decision – How will you know when you are making progress? How will you measure your success?

Accept complete responsibility for implementing the decision
